A Word for the Year

According to Dictionary.com the word of the year 2021 is "Allyship". The term is defined as "the state or condition of being an ally: supportive association with another person or group". In other words, allyship is the practice of emphasizing social justice, inclusion, and human rights

In this more than challenging year, in which the whole world was faced with the uncertainty of the ongoing pandemic, mutual support and understanding are needed more than ever before. And while we are all struggling with our own worries and doubts and the time seems to be passing by too quickly, perhaps the end of the year is the perfect time to reflect and to take a closer look at the things we could and should do to make this world a place of equality, love and mutual respect.

We often forget that by pointing a finger at others, the other four fingers of our hand are actually pointing at us. And we may not be able to change the whole world, but we are always just one step, one decision away from changing ourselves. That is the reason why I choose the word "change" to be the word for 2022.

I'm not talking about a huge list of New Year's resolutions. I'm talking about the process of becoming more conscious about myself, about the people and the world that I'm surrounded by. I'm talking about accepting that being different doesn't mean wrong. I'm talking about recognizing that I may not always be able to understand someone's choice or point of view but I can always choose kindness as my primary reaction.

By accepting and realizing that we are all equal citizens of this beautiful home called Earth, we need to do our own part and make sure that every single living being and soul on this planet feels accepted, loved, and respected. And it all starts with each and every one of us. The way we choose to talk, act, and react in every given moment is the change we desperately need in this world. If you and I really want to make an impact, we just have to take a close look at the person in the mirror. And to choose to love that person unconditionally, to fully accept every single part of ourselves, to make our mental and physical health a priority.

In the end, we all just want to be accepted for who we truly are. So be authentic, be whoever your soul desires to be. Smile, cry, scream, and laugh when you need to. And give everyone around you the chance to do the same. To be fully present, to exist, to be - everything and everyone we were created to be.

I hope that the upcoming year will be filled with hope and joy, and will move you towards all the things your heart was seeking and whispering to you until this moment.

Sending all of my love and best wishes!
